Types of degrees offered:
Associate Degree:
Academic Degree of 2 years is awarded by Community Colleges.
Completion of associate degree can lead to transfer to the remaining 2 years Bachelors
Degree in high ranked university having an articulated agreement with the community
college.
Bachelors Degree:
It is Commonly known as Undergraduate Degree and the duration
is of 4 years. For Ex : Bachelor of Arts (B. A.) or Bachelor of Science(B.S.)
Masters Degree:
The duration generally for all the master's course is of 2
years. Common examples of master degree are Masters of Arts (MA), Masters of Science
(MS), Masters of Engineering (MEng), Masters of Business Administration. But for courses
like Masters in Management, MEng. Degrees, LLM etc. the duration may be of one year.
Doctorate :
Commonly known as Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Duration may range
from 3-5 years. Ph.D. students need to submit a research proposal as well as must appear
Standardized Test i.e. GRE/GMAT and TOEFL/IELTS for admission. In the United States,
Students with Bachelor's degree may apply directly into Doctoral program without first
earning master's degree in few majors.
Major intakes
The major intakes for USA are fall intake and spring intake. During the fall intake,
the start date of university is in the month of august and September. During the
spring intake start date of universities is January.
Fall Intake:
If you are planning for fall intake it is better to start your
procedure eight to nine months ahead. June, July & august do your coaching for the test
and appear for test by the month of September so that you can get your results by
October. Start your application procedure during October as many universities deadlines
commence in October till May and you can get your I20’s by March to June and complete
your visa procedure before you start off the university i.e. (June & July) and fly to
USA during the month of august.
Spring Intake:
If you are planning for spring intake it is better to start your
coaching during the months of December, January and February. Appear to your required
test during March and get your result by April. Start applying to the universities in
the month of April as the deadline for many universities commences from July onwards
till October. You can get your I20’s by October to December and complete your visa
procedure in the months of November till December and fly to USA in Januay.
Summer Intake:
Summer intake is offered by few universities with limited
courses and classes start during the month of April, May.
Requirements to do masters in USA:
Most of the US universities accepts 16 years of education (12+4). B.E., B. Tech,
Bachelor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Physiotherapy. The required Academic Percentage
is 58% and above with minimum backlogs. In few universities 15 (12+3) years are also
acceptable for the Institution in India is NAAC “A” Accredited (National Assessment
& Accreditation Council). Three years of Bachelors degree acceptable for admissions
into Masters for Computer Science, MBA & Public Health courses & in other programs
through Pathway with few universities.
Acceptable scores of Standardized Tests :
GRE : 300+, GMAT : 500+ TOEFL : 79,
IELTS : 6.5 overall band. . Admissions without GRE/GMAT scores possible with several
universities. Students with less TOEFL/IELTS can get admission through Pathway or
English as second language program.
Other factors that are looked in are the extracurricular activities that the student
has been involved in, the research that the student has done in his subject. His
documents such as Resume, Letters of Recommendations & Statement of Purpose are also
very crucial and must be drafted very effectively.
Requirements to do bachelors in USA:
US generally requires 12 years of education for Associate Degree and Bachelors
Degree. The academic Percentage required is 58% and above.
Acceptable Scores : TOEFL 71 to 80, IELTS 6.0 .SAT : A good score would be 1150+
(out of 1600).
Scholarships and Financial aid:
Students planning to study Masters in USA have Tuition Fee waiver in form of
Assistantships, Research Assistantship, Teaching Assistantship and Graduate
Assistantship .The Part Time Jobs ( On Campus) .
Students who are planning to study Bachelors also have Scholarships available. There
are two types of Scholarships Need Based and Merit Based. We work for Universities
which offer Merit Based scholarships. Most of the Universities require SAT for Merit
Based scholarships.
Work Options :
Types of Employment available as an F‐1 Students while studying and after completing
studies 1. On Campus Employment.

On – Campus Employment:
Can work on campus 20 hrs./week during study time . Can
work full time (i.e. 40 hrs./week) during holidays . Positions the student can work as :
Teaching Assistantship ,Research Assistantship , Fellowship , Hourly Employment- Food
Services, Library, Event Coordinator, Laboratory Assistant, etc.
Curricular Practical Training (CPT):
It Provides opportunity to gain actual
employment experience. “An integral part of an established curriculum”. It is Defined as
“alternate work/study, internship, cooperative education, or any other type of required
internship or practicum which is offered by sponsoring employers through cooperative
agreements with the school to be eligible for CPT, student must have completed 9 months
in lawful status and currently be on F‐1 visa status. CPT can be full time (>20 hours
week) or part time (20 hours or less per week).
Optional Practical Training (OPT):
It is Available to students who are lawfully
enrolled on a full – time basis &have completed at least 1 full academic year. Eligible
student may request OPT in order to be employed in a position related to the major area
of study. 12/36 months of OPT available after each degree level completion.OPT program
allows F-1 students to work in US in occupations related to their field of study. F-1
visa holders are eligible for 24-month extension if they hold a degree in science,
technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).Finally the OPT Students who have pursued
STEM Degree in US get an opportunity to spend 36 months in US after their study. During
this 36 months they can work full time on student visa and if the employer sponsor’s H1B
they can convert their student visa into work visa. This period of 36 months is reduced
to 12 months in case of students who have done management studies in US. This benefit is
available under the scheme called Optional Practical Training (OPT).
